One Person Killed in Tractor and Semi Collision

A semi and tractor collided on Highway 16 near Saskatoon Monday morning killing one person.

Husband and wife Ontario dairy farmers, Henk & Bettina Schuurmans, were touring Canada in a tractor in an effort to promote Canada's dairy industry.

The wife was killed and the husband was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

They set out on their Canadian Milk Tour in late June.

 

Youth Given Platform to Share Passion for Agriculture at Stampede

The Alberta Young Speakers for Agriculture competition is happening at the Calgary Stampede today.

Youth ages 11 to 24 will present their views on one of five given agricultural topics.

There's cash prizes of up to $1000 and a free trip to the Canadian competition at the Royal Agriculture Winter Fair in Toronto up for grabs.

The Calgary Stampede International Agriculture and Agri-Food Committee will also be hosting an Agri-Trade Symposium at the grounds today.

One of the speakers is Dr. Stan Blade, Dean of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta.

 

The Agriculture and Agri-Food International Reception

Later tonight at the Calgary Stampede is the Agriculture and Agri-Food International Reception.

Industry stakeholders, government officials, and dignitaries will gather to celebrate agriculture.
