The Blades family's hard work on their ranch and community involvement payed off at the Calgary Stampede on Monday, July 9.

They were presented with a 2018 BMO farm family award along with 19 other farm families in Municipal Districts south of Red Deer.

Lyle Blades, his wife Alex, and two kids, Austin and Stevie, from TL Cattle Company west of Nanton represented the M.D. of Ranchland.

The Blades run mainly red and black Angus cattle and introduced Charolais bulls into the mix a few years ago.

Mitch Honess from Lomond shows off the family's new gate sign they were awarded with.

Also at the awards reception was the Honess family representing Vulcan County.

Mitch and Kelsey Honess from Lomond have three young kids and plant canola, peas, lentils, durum, barley, and spring and winter wheat.

Mitch Honess says, their one son already has a preferred brand of farm equipment, and gives him trouble if the new equipment's not John Deere green.

All farm families were treated to brunch at the BMO Centre at the Calgary Stampede grounds and given tickets to the afternoon Rodeo performance.
