The latest crop report from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry shows harvest has started in Southern Alberta.

The Tuesday, July 31 report says harvest for winter wheat, peas and barley is underway in the South East corner of the region.

Farmers in the South are concerned with how crops are filling and there's potential for light bushel weights and reduced podding on canola.

In Central Alberta, the report shows crops under drought stress are burning up and maturing faster than normal.

Farmers in the North East region of the province recently saw light, patchy showers according to the report.

The report adds, crop conditions are mixed in this area, with some receiving enough rainfall to sustain crops and others quickly advancing to maturity.

Overall, crop conditions in the South and Central areas are significantly below the provincial average.
