As 2017 starts to wrap up, the Alberta Canola Producers Commission reflects on another busy year.

Manager of Grower Relations and Extension with the Commission, Rick Taillieu, says they funded 9 new agronomic research projects this year.

"We have about $1.5 million of new money invested this year, so we've discussed with the growers some of those projects, including dealing with clubroot, some of the insect work we're doing, and sustainable rotations."

The Commission has also been busy hosting a number of different events.

"We do canolaPALOOZA , which is an outdoor extravaganza field day, a Hedging Edge workshop, some marketing workshops, some management workshops, and then we're also actively involved in public engagement."

Taillieu says, they showed consumers the importance of canola as a healthy eating alternative, and the importance of agriculture in the Alberta and Canadian economy.

At their regional meetings this fall, called the Powering Your Profits Tour, they had record attendance at all 12 events this year.

He says, they are looking forward to what is hopefully another great year in 2018 for canola, which starts off with a good planting season.
