Over 400 women from all parts of the ag sector gathered in Niagara Falls to be inspired and recharged.

The Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference East took place from Sunday, October 27 to Tuesday, October 29, and Conference Founder, Iris Meck, says the women in attendance represented over 170 organizations across eight provinces.

Meck says there's great networking at the conference where women can build sustainable relationships with like-minded people passionate about the agriculture industry.

She says the speakers were definitely a conference highlight whether they were producers, entrepreneurs or pursuing corporate careers.

"Talking about their strengths and weaknesses, talking about the opportunities and challenges that they've had, and the successes that they've gleaned along the way. It's great learning stories for women all across the board."

The line up of speakers included women like John Deere Canada President, Debra Harrison, expert in business and brain sciences, Dr. Brynn Winegard, and Co-founder of Carter Cattle Company Ltd in Saskatchewan, Tamara Carter.

Meck says the event also included a couple session on mental health.

Overall, she says they had strong attendance at the East Conference.

"Despite the poor economy, export issues, trade issues, the poor harvest that we've experience across parts of the West and East, I think this was a time for women to get together and refocus."

The next Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference will be in the West in Calgary coming up Monday, March 23 to Tuesday, March 24 with registration opening next week.
