A Strike at CP Rail Would Mean Farmers Don't Get Paid

Farmers may be facing more rail delays if CP Rail goes on strike.

Over 3000 CP Rail employees will strike Saturday if a deal is not reached between the rail company and the two unions.

Chair of the Alberta Wheat Commission, Kevin Bender, says because of the monopolistic nature of Canada's rail system, many farmers only have access to one rail line.

Bender says, if they strike, farmers served by CP Rail will not be able to get their grain to market, which means they don't get paid.

The Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions are urging the Federal Government to take immediate action to stop the strike.
