Advancements in Canola Varieties

There has been a lot of advancements in canola varieties over the years.

Justine Cornelsen is an Agronomy Specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, and says the main portfolios producers focus on now are harvestability, disease resistant, and of course, yield.

She says the disease resistant varieties are mainly for blackleg and clubroot.

 

Canola Council of Canada in China

The President of the Canola Council of Canada was in China last week along with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Jim Everson participated in a roundtable with the Prime Minister and had the opportunity to meet with government officials to advocate for a more a stable and predictable trade environment.

He says, they have new seed varieties that have been approved in Canada, but not yet in China.

After the United States, China is the largest export market for Canadian canola and canola products worth $2.7 billion in 2016.
