Canadian Wheat Production Highlighted in USDA Report

Yesterday, the USDA released its December World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates Report.

The report raised Canada's wheat crop by three million metric tons, bringing the number to 30 million tons.

That brought the world wheat ending stock total to a record large 268 million tons.

 

Bio-Cycle Shares Their Sustainability Story

Bio-Cycle shared their sustainability story last week at the Farm Forum event in Calgary.

They hosted a tour of their Depackaging Facility, where all the organic waste is collected from grocery stores and restaurants for their fertilizer product, Bio-Sul, which is used in commercial agriculture.

Where are the Oats for Cheerios Grown in Canada?

Also at Farm Forum last week, the Sustainability Engagement Manager with General Mills, Jay Watson, gave a presentation.

He says, General Mills has committed to sustainably sourcing 100 per cent of their top ten raw material categories by 2020.

In Canada, the oats for their Cheerios are mostly sourced from Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but that doesn't mean they won't source from Alberta in the future.  

 

Something New for Harvest Samples

The Canadian Grain Commission says they've had a good response to this year's harvest sample program.

Something new this year, is they are emailing results back to producers rather than sending them in the mail.

They are accepting harvest samples until the end of the month.
