A Year in Review for the Alberta Canola Producers Commission

As 2017 starts to wrap up, the Alberta Canola Producers Commission reflects on another busy year.

Manager of Grower Relations and Extension with the Commission, Rick Taillieu, says they funded nine new agronomic research projects this year, with about $1.5 million of new money invested in 2017.

Would Canada Benefit From Supply Management in the States?

Even though there is little to no chance of it passing U.S. Congress, an American man is proposing a supply management system in the States.

The Director of the Agriculture Policy Analysis Center, Harwood Schaffer, gave a presentation at the Farm Forum Event last week in Calgary.

His argument is, if they get a good price in the U.S., that will give a good price to Canadian farmers.

 

 Stolen Horses Have Been Returned

The Breton RCMP say the six missing horses from Central Alberta have been found and safely returned to their owner.

A person in the Wetaskiwin County located the horses on Tuesday night, and they appear to be in good physical condition.

The investigation of the initial theft is still underway.

 Anyone with information on this theft is asked to contact the RCMP Livestock Inspector at 403-701-1462.


CFA President Attends WTO Meetings In Argentina

Canadian Federation of Agriculture President, Ron Bonnett, is in Argentina this week attending the eleventh World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference.

Bonnett says, the big wild card is whether or not the U.S. wants to be engaged in a multi-country initiative like the WTO.

The conference is held every two years.
