MacDon To Be Sold For $1.2 Billion

Winnipeg-based ag equipment maker, MacDon, and its Group of Companies has been sold.

Linamar Corporation, which is based in Guelph, Ontario, is making the purchase for $1.2 billion.

Linamar said in a statement,MacDon will be combined with its existing agriculture harvesting business in Hungary to position both businesses for significant growth.

The transaction is awaiting regulatory approval which is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2018.


CFA Welcomes Changes To Income Sprinkling Rules

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) is pleased to see that Finance Canada has proposed changes that have addressed a number of the key concerns raised by Canadian farm businesses.

The group is happy to see capital gains from qualified farm property would be excluded from tax on split income.

CFA is also pleased to see further clarification and definition on the contributions required for both capital and labour.

The group is awaiting draft legislation and will fully analyze the proposed changes once a Bill is introduced in Parliament.

Nominations Open for Alberta Farm Animal Care Awards

Alberta Farm Animal Care is looking for groups, or individuals, who have made exceptional contributions in the field of livestock welfare.
