Agrium and PotashCorp Merger Complete

Earlier this week, the merger between Agrium and PotashCorp was completed to form the new company, Nutrien Ltd.

They received clearance for the merger from the United States' Federal Trade Commission back on December 27.

FCC Chief Agricultural Economist optimistic About 2018

Farm Credit Canada’s Chief Agricultural Economist is fairly optimistic about 2018.

J.P. Gervais says in the last 10 years farm income has grown significantly, but notes he sees a volume driven market for the short term in 2018.

He says one good thing that he feels will have benefits for producers and the ag sector in 2018, is the investments in value added processing domestically which makes for a strong supply chain overall.

Hog Markets Start 2018 On Positive Note

The Director of Risk Management with Hams Marketing Services, says most of the forward hog contracts were at or near contract highs to start the new year.

Tyler Fulton says, U.S. cash markets are expected to trade near steady in the post-holiday period.

He says, spring and summer lean hog futures pushed into new contract highs last week and traded near those levels to start the week.

Ag Minister Travels to Kansas City

The Alberta Ag Minister, Oneil Carlier, leaves today for the annual Legislative Agriculture Chairs Summit in Kansas City.

The Summit brings together Provincial Agriculture Ministers and U.S. State Legislators to look at issues affecting North American agriculture.
