They're handing out their annual BMO Farm Family Awards which recognize families in the Municipal Districts south of Red Deer.

The families are treated to brunch at the awards ceremony where they're presented with a personalized gate sign, and then they're off to the afternoon Rodeo.

The Calgary Stampede Team Cattle Penning Championships are also wrapping up today.

Cow-Calf Operation Trends Across Western Canada

Information collected through the Western Canadian Cow-Calf Survey is starting to come out.

The latest survey was based on data from 260 participants across the prairies, with herd sizes ranging from 20 to 1500 head.

Acting Director for the Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence at Clavet, Kathy Larson, says the results showed an increase in producers using pain medication for certain procedures.

She says, the results also showed a strong use of polled genetics, which means the animal doesn't have horns.
