New OHS Rules Announced for Farms and Ranches

On December 1st, new Occupational Health and Safety rules come into effect for farm and ranch workers.

Alberta Labour Minister, Christina Gray, says it came after extensive consultation with farmers.

Family members and volunteers on farms and ranches will remain exempt from the OHS rules.

Previously, Alberta was the only province where farms and ranches were exempt from workplace health and safety laws.

Every Possible Canola Question had an Answer in Lacombe

CanolaPALOOZA was the place to be on Wednesday.

The outdoor feild day was at the Lacombe Research Centre, with more than 25 learning stations hosted by over 100 instructors, including Western Canada's leading researchers and agronomy specialists.

The carnival-like event even had food trucks and games.

 

The New Olds College Smart Farm

The Olds College farm will be undergoing a bit of a makeover into a farm of the future.

It will be called the Olds College Smart Farm and will incorporate the latest technologies aimed at improving productivity while efficiently and sustainably using resources.

The multi-million dollar initiative will be done in phases.

The first phase will focus on crops by transforming the 110 acres with stationary soil monitors, digital weather stations, wireless grain bin sensors and more.
