Producers Facing a Vitamin Shortage

Clayton Smith with Cattlemen's Corner says, producers wanting to get their hands on vitamins A, D and E are looking at some steep prices.

A fire at a BASF's citral manufacturing plant last October in Germany is causing a short supply of these vitamins.

Smith says, the plant is supposed to be up and running in March.

 

Canadian Farmers Must Increase Productivity to Remain Competitive

Farm Credit Canada's Chief Agricultural Economist says, Canadian farmers need to continue to focus on efficiencies and increased production of commodities in order to remain competitive.

J.P. Gervais says, increasing productivity doesn't necessarily mean Canadian farmers need to expand their operations.

He says, changing food preferences are also driving investment decisions.

Railways Respond to Government Demand

CN Rail is apologizing and says it will move quickly to improve the movement of Western Canadian grain.

The company says, it delivered around 4,500 empty hopper cars last week, up 35 percent from the February average.

CP Rail says it is also adding both crews and locomotives to support large volumes.

Agriculture Committee Will Hold Emergency Meeting on Latest Grain Crisis

The Federal Conservatives are again calling on the Liberals to address the grain backlog crisis.

Associate Ag Critic, John Barlow, and fellow Conservatives on the Standing Ag Committee, convinced the Liberal majority to agree to an emergency meeting, March 19th.

Barlow says, the Liberals could move faster by implementing an Order in Council, to clear the backlog.
