A New Program for Young People in the Chicken Industry

The chicken industry is giving their young farmers a leg up.

Chicken Farmers of Canada is launching their Young Farmers Program, where they'll teach the next generation about the industry though an 18 month program.

They say, this also gives the organization a chance to find up and coming leaders in the industry.

 

 CFA Focusing on Trade as MP's are Back in Ottawa

MP's were back in Ottawa this week after the summer break.

Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) President, Ron Bonnett, says they'll be keeping a close eye on the Bill to ratify the Asia-Pacific trade deal, which has now passed second reading.

He says, other trade deals the CFA will be focused on include NAFTA and the free trade deal signed with the E.U.

 

Unusually High Number of West Nile Cases in Horses

Dr. Stephen deGraaf with the Nanton Vet Clinic says, there's been an unusually high number of West Nile cases in horses throughout Alberta this year.

He says, the mosquitoes that transmit West Nile mature faster in hot weather.

As of September 1, there were 27 cases of West Nile in horses throughout the province, which Dr. deGraaf expects to have doubled since then.
