Alberta's Agriculture and Forestry Minister, Oneil Carlier, is heading to Kansas City today for the annual Legislative Agriculture Chairs Summit, which will wrap up Sunday.

The Summit brings together Provincial Ag Ministers, and U.S. State Legislators, to look at issues affecting North American agriculture.

In a release, the Government of Alberta says, the Ag Minister will reaffirm Alberta's commitment to open markets and the modernization of NAFTA.

Ag Minister Carlier says, developing and maintaining trade relationships is vital to the growth and success of agriculture in Alberta.

"The U.S. export market is worth $4 billion to Alberta’s producers, and free trade has helped create a system that benefits farmers in both our countries. We must continue to connect, consider and discuss both the diversity of our perspectives and our shared goals."

The estimated total cost of the trip is $13,109.
