Crops are ripening quickly in Southern Alberta, meaning some producers are already harvesting while others are not far behind.

Mark Cutts with the Ag Info Center, says statistics in these Southern areas of the Province show an estimate of lower yields this harvest.

"They're expecting it to be about 85 percent of what we consider to be the normal yields. Looks like yields could be a little bit lower. The main reason for those potential lower yields is because of the weather that has been set into Southern Alberta for the last little while."

Cutts says, the East Central Areas of the province are experiencing similar conditions. As you travel further North, farmers are having the opposite moisture problems.

"When we get up into North West and North East Areas of the Alberta which were very wet in the fall and the spring as well, those areas which were able to seed crops have the risk of whether the crops will be able to mature in time since they were seeded later than normal."

Producers in these areas will be hoping for a long fall to allow crops enough time to mature.
