Election season is in full swing, and Alberta Barley has 16 positions available for barley producers. There are two director positions, one director-at-large position, and 13 available spots for delegates.

David Bishop, Vice Chair and Region One Director, says the people you meet is the best part.

"You meet a lot of interesting people, you make new friends, and it's a real asset for our farm, because of the knowledge you glean from all the networking you do with all the industry partners throughout Alberta, and even throughout Canada. I would safely say, I've gotten way more out of it than I thought I ever would. It's been fantastic."

Bishop says, becoming a delegate is a great way to get started in the association.

"Then you kind of get climatized, and see what goes on, and how it works. Being on a commission, either as a delegate, or on the board, is great because it's quite a learning experience. You become quite knowledgeable about what's going on in agriculture. You actually see the importance of the commission, and the roles it plays in agriculture, especially for our producers."

Directors, and directors-at-large, serve three year terms, and must submit paperwork by 4:00 pm on October 20. Delegates serve two-year terms and are elected at regional meetings.
