More changes are coming in the world of farm seed and chemical manufacturing.

BASF is acquiring key parts of Bayer's seed and chemical business for $5.9 billion euro.

Bayer had agreed to divest some of its assets as part of its planned takeover of Monsanto.

BASF will pick up Bayer's Liberty®, Basta® and Finale® brands, as well as its seed businesses for key row crops in select markets including canola hybrids in North America under the InVigor® brand using the LibertyLink® trait technology.

The transaction also includes Bayer's trait research and breeding capabilities for these crops and the LibertyLink® trait and trademark.

The transaction is subject to the closing and approval of Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto.

That is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.
