The long awaited Bill C-49 has finally been passed.

On Tuesday, May 22, the House of Commons voted to send the Bill back to the Senate because they disagreed with the Senate's two amendments.

The Senate then chose to accept the House's decision by voting to send the Bill for Royal Assent.

The Senate voted with 41 in favour and 31 opposed, and 2 abstentions.

Farmers were pushing to see Bill C-49 passed before the summer break starting June 22, in order to hold the railways more accountable and to avoid another grain backlog like the industry experienced this past winter.
