Legislation containing long-term solutions for farmers battling with rail delays, has been sent back to the Senate.

Shadow Transport Minister, Kelly Block, put forward an amendment Thursday in the House of Commons to fast track Bill C-49 for Royal Assent, which means the Bill would be passed.

The amendment was voted down 163 to 118, and Agriculture Minister, Lawrence MacAulay, was not present for this first vote.

Then it was voted for the Bill to go back to the Senate with 161 in favour and 121 opposed.

Minister MacAulay was present for the second vote.

The grain industry is advocating for the Bill C-49 to be passed by August in order to avoid another grain backlog.
