The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference says its roughly 3,000 members at CP Rail have voted 98 per cent in favour of rejecting the company's final offer.

In an attempt to avoid a work stoppage, the union says negotiations with the railway will resume immediately.

72-hours notice is required before a strike can take place.

CP Rail train crews have been on strike twice since 2012.
