While farmers in Southern Alberta are well into their post-harvest routines, Northern regions of the Province are struggling with wet weather to get their crops in the bins.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest Crop Report, as of October 17, harvest is 86 percent complete in Alberta.

Last week, the North West and North East regions faced wet conditions, including up to six inches of snow in some areas, which flattened cereal crops. Mindful of last year's harvest situation, farmers are taking any opportunities to get their crops off. In these areas, essentially all cereals are being harvest tough, and will require drying.

In the North East region, crop quality estimates have been starting to decline, and in the North West, crop quality saw a significant reduction.

In the Peace Region, there was a 4 to 5 day window where they made good progress before receiving more wet weather.

Central Alberta will be wrapping up their harvest shortly, with about 91 percent of their crops in the bins as of last week.

In Southern Alberta, moisture the snow brought a couple weeks ago has been drying up in the wind, but surface soil moisture improved with 38 percent of soil being rated good or excellent, compared to 33 percent two weeks ago.

Southern Alberta is essentially done harvest, besides some remaining sugar beats, grain corn, and sunflowers.
