The federal government has added 10 more Alberta regions to their 2018 Livestock Tax Deferral list, including the M.D. of Foothills.

This allows producers to defer a portion of this year's sale proceeds of their breeding stock until next year, to help build their herds again.

Low moisture levels have affected many areas across Canada, and some producers reduce their breeding herd in order to manage feed supplies.

"This past year, extreme weather conditions have caused feed shortfalls for Canada's livestock producers in several provinces," said Canada's Agriculture Minister, Lawrence Macaulay. "The Livestock Tax Deferral Provision will help give producers the resources needed to help rebuild their herds and get back to business."

Producers can request the tax deferral when filing their 2018 income tax returns.
