India has approved the proposed merger between Calgary-based Agrium, and Saskatoon-based PotashCorp.

Their approval of the merger is conditional on the party's commitment to divest some of PotashCorp's minority shareholdings within 18 months of the order.

An Indian appellate court has approved the settlement reached by the merger parties and the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

The companies have received unconditional clearance for the merger from Canada, Brazil, and Russia.

They will now continue to seek approval from the United States and China, before they can officially form the new company called, Nutrien.

Nutrien will play a role in "Feeding the Future" by helping farmers and growers increase their food production in a sustainable manner.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter of 2017.
