The Indian Government has once again raised the import tariff on chickpeas.

Effective immediately, the 40 per cent tariff is now 60 per cent.

Last December 21, India imposed a 30 per cent tariff on chickpeas and lentils, and on February 7, they increased the tariff for the first time to 40 per cent.

The move was made to support Indian farmers who faced lower commodity prices.

According to Statistics Canada, last year Canada exported 10 thousand tonnes of chickpeas to India.
