It was the second Annual Alberta Livestock Expo in Lethbridge last week, which was bigger and better than last year according to the Exhibition Manager.

Lisa Doyle says the show, which took place Wednesday, October 10 to Thursday, October 11, featured 120 exhibitors.

There was also a pork quality competition where the top three hog carcasses were chosen from the 23 hutterite colonies who entered.

"Once the awards are given out, there's lots of celebrating to be had," Doyle says. "Then after that, the top three carcasses are bid on by feed companies and other particular companies that are interested, and all the money that we raise gets donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities."

The hog carcass auction raised $39,500 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Southern Alberta.

First place hog went to Big Bend Farming, second place was awarded to to Elm Spring Colony followed up by Ewelme Colony in third.

Doyle adds, last year they put on a bare bones show to get the Expo off the ground.

"It was sold out a month before, fantastic show, great turnout, so that gave us the option this year to increase the show, attendance, the booths and the events surrounding the show."

On Wednesday, the show brought in a crowd of about 320 people, and drew a bigger crowd for day two of the Expo on Thursday which saw about 530 people.
