Megz Reynolds has not only been busy with life and harvest on her farm at Kyle, Saskatchewan, but also talking about some of the key issues in Agriculture with politicians.

Foothills MP and former Shadow Agriculture and Agri-Food Critic for the Federal Conservatives, John Barlow, recently took her up on her invitation to join her in the combine.

"I think it’s a fantastic idea," Barlow said. "One of the reasons I wanted to come, was I think one of the number one things I think we have to start talking about is reconnecting urban and rural Canadians. I think what Megz is doing is she’s opening up her cab to people who may not have a lot of experience with Agriculture and say come on out, learn about what we’re doing, and have a clear understanding of where your food comes from.”

Barlow says the two chatted about a number of topics.

“How do we build a communication strategy to reduce those urban folks that don’t have an understanding about Agriculture? How do we talk to them in a language and a method that they will understand? Certainly then some of the other things we talked about was CFIA, PMRA decisions on some of the pesticides, the carbon tax. Certainly, the overall theme was just the obstacles the Liberal Government is putting in-front of Agriculture”

He notes Canada has this goal of 75 billion dollars in economic trade, but how do you expect farmers to achieve that goal when the Liberals are removing every single tool farmers have to be successful.

Additional Note – Friday afternoon Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer shuffled his cabinet.   John Barlow moves from the Shadow Agriculture and Agri-Food Critic to Shadow Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Labour.
