Team Alberta has been going to bat for crop farmers in Ottawa and the Provincial Legislature.

The advocacy group is made up of the Alberta Canola, Alberta Wheat and Barley, and Alberta Pulse Growers commissions.

Team Alberta was recently at canolaPALOOZA in Lacombe talking with producers and members of the agriculture industry about their recent initiatives and advocacy efforts.

Manager of Government Relations and Policy for the Alberta Wheat and Alberta Barley Commission, Shannon Sereda was at the event, and said the farm groups work together to provide communication and policy input to the Government.

"We are strengthening the voice of the farmer when we're representing all four crops which many of our farmers grow, it just really helps coordinate our advocacy work, and we've gained a lot of recognition in both Ottawa and provincially with our Team Alberta, so it's been a very good Government relations strategy for all the crop commissions."

Team Alberta tackles issues for farmers in areas such as trade, transportation, and tools.

In March, Alberta’s crop commissions’ delegation met with Members of Parliament, Senators, and government officials in Ottawa to advocate for progress in free trade agreements, a reliable rail system to export grain, and continued access to crop protection products being re-evaluated by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

Sereda said, the group has been around for three or four years now.
