Recent wet weather continues to slow harvest progress across the Province.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest Crop Report, about 17 per cent of Alberta crops have been harvested.

Looking at Southern Alberta as of last week, almost half of the crops are still standing, 12 per cent have been swathed and 38 per cent combined.

The report shows crop quality in the Southern Region for malt barley, the top two grades of spring wheat, durum wheat, oats and dry peas are all above the provincial five year averages.

Pasture conditions for Southern Alberta are unchanged since the prior report, with 35 per cent rated as poor.

In Central Alberta, most crops in this region are ready for harvest, but harvest operations have slowed because of light showers.

But, the report shows the recent precipitation did benefit late seeded crops to fill, while cooler temperatures made the crops tough.

Damp weather conditions also slowed harvest in the North East region of Alberta, and in some areas, cool temperatures and less sunshine have delayed crop maturity.

The report says, about 73 per cent of crops are standing, with 20 per cent swathed and seven per cent harvested in the North East.
