How to make water available, and choosing the best watering system, are some of the most important things livestock producers need to consider.

The Foothills Forage and Grazing Association is hosting an Off-Site Waterers and Watershed Management Workshop in Standard, AB, on October 19.

Jenifer Duckering, Interim Manager with the Association, says they've got a great line up of speakers.

"We're going to have Marvin Jackson talk about off-site watering systems, such as how to choose a water system, trouble shooting, the pros and cons to different systems, and will be available to different producers to answer any questions they might have. Then we're going to have Joe Harrington talk about on farm water management, so watershed management, water wells, and long-term water management plans."

Duckering says, representatives from Cows and Fish, Ducks Unlimited, and Alberta Environment will also be speaking at the event on topics such as forage and wetland restoration programs, and the new wetland policy.

Not only will producers have access to these experts, they will also get to network with other producers and learn from each other, Duckering says.

"It gives producers the opportunity to talk with people who have successfully installed water systems, and to have that conversation with those individuals. This is an opportunity to ask those questions, and see what other producers are doing that are working for them."

The workshop is in sponsorship of Wheatland County, Sun Dog Solar, the Alberta Government, Cows and Fish, and Ducks Unlimited.

Registration is open until the night before the workshop. For more information, or to register, you can visit their website.
