One person has died and two people are unaccounted for after a boat capsized in Kananaskis Country. 

It happened yesterday afternoon in the Spray Lakes Reservoir in Spray Valley Provincial Park, approximately 24 kilometres south of Canmore.

Canmore RCMP were called out to the report of a capsized boat at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

According to officers, there were four occupants in the boat when it overturned. One person was self rescued. One person was confirmed deceased on scene and there are two people still unaccounted for. 

Kananaskis Emergency Services, Alberta Conservation Officers and RCMP are continuing their search efforts.

Further details cannot be provided on the occupants of the boat at this time pending their identification and notification of next of kin.

Adequate resources are currently in place for the search operation.

RCMP are asking people to avoid the area.
