Foothills County is in for some weather whiplash this week.

Over the weekend, an Alberta clipper brought a dusting of snow and temperatures well below the February average of 0 Celcius.

Luckily, some reprieve is on the way.

Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Samantha Mauti says a mid-week warm front is coming to the Foothills.

"What we see happening for tomorrow and Thursday, we have a warm front coming through Alberta, bringing those temperatures up a little bit, so we're seeing temperatures forecast above 0 for Wednesday and Thursday. Quite a swing from well below normal to then swinging to above normal."

Highs of 6°C is expected on Wednesday and 8°C Thursday.

It may seem like things are looking up, but it'll just be a fleeting window of warmth before another plunge.

A second cold front is on the way, says Mauti.

"Once that second cold front comes through, it looks like we're going to stay below normal for a little bit, I see lots of temperatures in and around -10 for the highs on Friday, Saturday, and possibly Sunday."

Some precipitation is expected in the next few days too.

The first of it should arrive on Thursday, and depending on how early it hits, it could come down as rain.

Beyond that, snow is expected on Friday night through to Saturday night.

We're a little far out to say for certain, but at the moment, Mauti says it doesn't look like a significant amount of snow.

"Models are generally pointing to only a couple of centimetres for the Okotoks and High River areas with each, so as of Friday morning just a couple of centimetres, and as of Saturday morning just a couple of centimetres. Keep in mind there is plenty of time for this to change, just keep up to date with the forecast."
