Over 40 farms across Alberta will participate in the first ever Alberta Open Farm Days this August.

Albertans are invited to experience rural life on August 24th and 25th, in hopes they will gain a better understanding of the importance of agriculture in Alberta.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Verlyn Olson says the Open Farm Days are an opportunity for Albertans to experience life in their province beyond the city limits.

Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation Dr. Richard Starke says Open Farm Days are a step in the right direction to adding to the 1.5 billion dollars already brough in by tourism in rural Alberta.

Alberta Open Farm Days kick off Saturday, August 24th when local producers and chefs will team up for a number of culinary events.

On Sunday, the farms will open their gates free of charge and offer a number of fun, educational events for participants.
