The Alberta Beef Producers are joining the chorus of voices wanting to see retaliation over country of origin labelling on Alberta beef.

Alberta Beef Producers Executive Director Rich Smith says he's behind the push for sanctions.

"Well we're certainly supporting the efforts being made by our national organization, the Canadian Cattleman's Association. And also both the Provincial Government of Alberta and the Federal Government of Canada to increase the pressure on the United States to solve this problem and eliminate this unfair trade practice which is what we see mandatory country of origin labelling."

Smith says the Americans have recently dug in their heels over the issue with new regulations coming into effect in November likely to make what they call a bad situation even worse.
