The value of Alberta farmland continues to rise in the face of a slower economy.

In it's latest report, Farm Credit Canada says the average value of land in the province increased by 2.2 per cent in the second half of 2008.

FCC appraiser Ken Gurney says while it's the third consecutive semi annual increase, the numbers this time reflects what's happening with the economy.

"We were substantially higher at 6.7% last time", he says, "a lot of the oil sector has pulled out of agriculture but we're still seeing some ground roots increases".

For the same reporting period the average value of Canadian farmland increased by 5.6 percent, the third highest increase since 1997.
