The Alberta Wheat Commission held its Annual General Meeting this week during the CrossRoads Crop Conference in Edmonton.

There are no changes in the executive.

The board of directors putting Greg Sears from Sexsmith back as chair, while Jason Lenz of Bentley and Shawn Jacula of Vermillion resume their roles as vice-presidents.

A key issue for the executive will be the amalgamation of Alberta Wheat and Alberta Barley.

Sears says over the next few months, they look forward to building a well-thought-out platform for the new commission to launch from.

"As we continue to engage with Alberta Agriculture Products Marketing Council and producers on the final details related to an amalgamated organization, I am honoured to lead the organization in its remaining months as a single commission and keep Alberta farmers’ interests front and center.”

Formal amalgamation of the two commissions with an interim board of directors is slated for August 2023, pending minister approval of new regulations.

Stewart Oke was appointed by the board as the new director for Region 3, regional representatives include Jesse Meyer for Region 5 and Jason Saunders for Region 1.

Outgoing director Jason Saunders had served as the previous vice-chair.
