You won't need a New Years resolution to help lower your gas bill in the new year.

Direct Energy announced that the Natural Gas rate will fall for the month of January, helping people save money after the holidays.

For those who live south of Red Deer and haven't chosen a competitor natural gas supplier within the ATCO Gas South service territory, your rate will drop over 70 cents per GJ.

The rate is dropping from $2.902 per GJ to $2.173 per GJ.

Because of this change, the average residential gas bill for January, based on an average of 20 GK of consumption, will be approximately $213.
