Today was the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site season opening day and what a great day it was!

The weather today was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. Kids were out and about with their parents enjoying the ranch and some people even enjoyed a little picnic along the river.

People had the chance to drink some cowboy coffee while listening to poetry and stories about the people that made the ranch famous. Parry Jacobson was also there playing his guitar.

Some folks even practiced their roping techniques while staff were there to lend a helping a hand while others watched the black smith make horse shoes.

The history at the ranch is incredible, one of the buildings dates back to 1883!

Since the Bar U Ranch played a major part in the Calgary Stampede's history they were offering cake and coffee in the visitor's centre for the Stampede's 100th anniversary.

Watching the Percheron horses hooked up to the wagons and plowing the field was probably one of my favorite things I saw today.

I can't wait to head back to the Bar U Ranch again this summer for more events!

Tomorrow I'll be in the Little Britches parade and later I'll be at the rodeo for a bit as well. I'll also be zippin' over to the Longview 4H sale so tomorrow's going to be a busy day! Hope to see you gusy at these events!
