The national organization that will represent barley industry members and farmers was formally incorporated yesterday.

"This is the first time in history the entire value chain has been brought together from coast to coast on a Board of Directors." said Brian Otto, chairperson for the new Barley Council of Canada.

The BCC will focus on five areas: innovation and research, promoting best crop production practices, supporting market development, increasing market access and improving understanding and communication within the barley value chain.

"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I want to congratulate the new Barley Council of Canada on its incorporation," said Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz in the news release. "We look forward to working with the BCC to grow a bright future for Canada's hardworking barley farmers."

The BCC's Board of Directors was elected back in February.
