The Okotoks Bisons are heading to Provincials for the first time since 2014.

The Junior B team won the Heritage Junior B Hockey League Championships last week with a three-games-to-none series win over the Cochrane Generals.

And now the Bisons are heading up to Wainwright for Provincials on Thursday.

Okotoks native and Bisons Captain Evan Woods says the team's pretty stoked.

"...it's pretty exciting, it's something that we've been looking towards for a few years now and this is my final year so it's definitely extra special."

Woods says they don't have much experience against the teams they'll be facing.

"We really don't know much about these teams, besides Cochrane they're the only other team in our league, and I think the last time the Bisons have played teams from other leagues was the last time they were in Provincials which was about eight years ago.

Eight teams will be competing for the Provincial title including the Cochrane Generals whom the Bisons just beat to clinch the Heritage league banner.

The Bisons face off against their namesake, the hometown Wainright Jr. Bisons on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.

April 1 they go up against the Capital League Champs at 1 p.m. and then take on the Calgary reps at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

Playoffs go later that day with the Bronze and Gold medal games set for Sunday.
