RCMP and other highway officials will be out in force this week making sure you're buckling up for safety.

Police, Special Constables and Alberta Transportation Officials will be watching out for people not buckling up or having things like malfunctioning tail-lights during their annual selective traffic enforcement program.

Constable Trevor Bowman, says it's a fact that fewer people in rural communities wear their seatbelts.

"Unfortunately, we do. Seatbelt use, our goal is to get it up to 95% of where we it's at right now. The majority of drivers wear seatlbelts but we want everybody wearing seatbelts because seatbelts do save lives."

The STEP program runs from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
