Albertans aged 50 and over will be able to access their retirment savings earlier thanks to changes made by the Province.

Stuart Elson with Alberta Finance says the Employment Pension Plan Act has been amended......

"We've changed the rules a little bit to allow people more flexibility       in terms of how much money they can take out from a locked-in fund in each given year and aswell they can also use the locked-in funds to invest in their own mortgage or a close relative's mortgage."

As of November 1st those 50 years of age and over can unlock up to 50 percent of their locked-in contributions.
