Donald Frederick Chipchase

July 24, 1932- September 9, 2018

Don Chipchase, beloved husband of Marie Chipchase, of Longview, Alberta, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the age of 86 years. Don is survived by his two loving children, Shane (Theresa) Chipchase and Dawn Marie (Murray) Giles and three loving granddaughters Kayla, Jessica and Jodi Giles. Don is survived by siblings, Horace Chipchase, Eleanor (George) Moore, Ruth (Dick) Mohr and Charles Chipchase and numerous nieces and nephews and is predeceased by his Mother Bernice and his Father Frederick Chipchase, along with sister and brother-in-law Freda (Clyde) Resler and sister-in-law Anne Chipchase.

Don’s childhood was spent on the family farm at Easyford, Alberta. Don came to the High River area, at the age of 16, with his brother Horace working on threshing crews in the Meadowbank Community. He loved the community so much he never returned home. Don worked for the Carter and Brocklebank family farms in the Meadowbank District.

In 1965, Don met his wife Marie, they married in 1966 and moved to the East Longview District actively farming there until 1985 when the family purchased a farm south of the Highwood River returning to the Meadowbank District. Don was a quiet man, who enjoyed living on the farm and being outdoors, always busy taking care of his cows, horses, chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats. It was a well-known fact that animals loved Don. He enjoyed every moment with his family, his visits with friends and his cherished time with his granddaughters. Don drove a school bus for 19 years and was very proud to have driven many of the kids in the Meadowbank/Longview area.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Don’s life will take place Friday, October 5th at 2pm at the Meadowbank Community Hall.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Adam Vyse and all the 3rd floor staff at the High River Hospital for their compassionate and exceptional care as well as Dr Ashref Jeeva for the years that he cared for Don.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the High River Hospital Foundation.
