A cougar attack in Banff resulted in injuries for one person and prompted an area closure.

The incident happened on Monday (Feb. 13) at the Rockbound Lake trailhead near Castle Junction in Banff National Park just before 11 a.m.

According to a statement from AHS Public Education Officer Stuart Brideaux, EMS treated an adult who had been in the care of Parks Canada officials before their arrival.

The patient had minor soft tissue damage from the cougar encounter and was taken to hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

Banff National Park announced a closure order for the Castle Mountain Lookout and Silverton Falls areas, including Rockbound Lake soon after.
