Curling Alberta has pulled the plug on their Provincial Championships for the year.

They say their Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles Provincial Curling Championships won't go ahead because of the extension of Provincial COVID restrictions until Thursday, January 21.

The events were scheduled to be played in a "bubble" in Sylvan Lake from Monday, January 25 to Friday, February 5, but because the restrictions were extended, the organizers couldn't pull the events together on time safely.

Other Alberta curling events remaining for the season, their status remains unchanged.

They say Alberta will be represented at the Scotties, Brier and Canadian Mixed Championships slated for Calgary this February and March, but they're still working out the details around deciding on which teams will represent the Province.

In the meantime, Curling Canada has awarded the 2022 Tim Horton's Brier to the City of Lethbridge.
