The Okotoks Dawgs have exorcised their demons in Lethbridge getting the 9-8 victory in a tough bout this afternoon against the Bulls.

With the win, Okotoks picked up their first victory on the road against the Bulls and now trail by only one win in the 4-3 season series so far.

Veteran and Sherwood Park's own Graham Brunner started on the mound and came away with a solid start. Brunner played in five and two third innings and struck out nine batters for the Bulls.

Ryan McFarland, Easton Corey, Trent Warstler, Seth Thompson, and Ashton Luera came in as relievers.

Luera earned the save after coming in with two-thirds of an inning left in the ninth and struck out both batters to close the game and solidify the win for the Dawgs.

Okotoks opened the scoring at the top of the second thanks to Nash Crowell hitting a double as the first batter of the inning. Spencer Sullivan would get Crowell in for a run after an error by the Bulls' second baseman.

At the top of the third Logan Grant hit a single to centre field getting Tucker Zdunich in for a run. Grant would then touch all bases and score a run of his own after a passed ball by the Bulls giving the Dawgs a 3-0 lead.

At the top of the fourth veteran Caleb Lumbard crunched a home run with the first at-bat of the inning. That would be Lumbard's first home run on the season.

Lethbridge answered with a single run in the bottom of the sixth but Dawgs roared back with another five runs at the top of the seventh.

Brendan Luther has been hot on the bat and picked up another double on the season at the top of the seventh. His double would score Dawson Santana in for a run who was awarded a walk before Luther's at bat.

High River's Tucker Zdunich stayed hot hitting a double to right field and got Luther in for the second run of the inning.

With Zdunich and Connor Crowson already on base, Crowell stepped up to the plate and smashed his fifth home run of the 2024 WCBL season. The Dawgs took a commanding 9-1 lead into the eighth inning.

The Bulls wouldn't go down without a fight and scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth. At the bottom of the ninth Lethbridge was still swinging and got three runs in. Thanks to Luera for the Dawgs and closing out the game, the Dawgs came away victorious.

The Dawgs will continue their road trip when they arrive in Brooks to face the Bombers on Tuesday at 7:05 pm.
