An all-day workshop 'Scared to Death of Death' is coming to the Foothills this Wednesday, April 27.

It's being put on by the Alberta Hospice Palliative Care Association and hosted by the High River District Health Care Foundation and the High River General Hospital.

The AHPCA is bringing in guest speaker Blair Collins, grief counselor and life coach, as well as High River's own Darrin Parkin, spiritual care clinician with the hospital.

CEO of AHPCA, Kristi Puchbauer, says we really need to have honest, open discussions about death.

"Well, I think we really do live in a death denying culture. It affects all of us yet it is something that we often avoid.  We're not sure what to say."

And this workshop is intended to do just that, talk about dying and how it affects you and your loved ones.

Collins says it's important to bring up the topic.

"In terms of casual personal conversations, I think it's really important to bring it up and acknowledge it because often times what grieving people need is permission to talk."

The all day event is at the Highwood Memorial Centre in High River on Wednesday April 27.  It runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with lunch provided.
