January 31, 1922 – November 16, 2016

Tillie Deines was born in Empress, Alberta, the fourth of six children. She passed peacefully at the High River Hospital on November 15, 2016 in her 95th year.

Tillie is survived by her husband Allan of 68 years, their daughter Marilyn Bonnet, and sons Gerald (Kathy) and Barry (MJ), four grandchildren, Marc, Patrick, Kristopher(Brittany), Chad and three great grandchildren, Valentina, Sloan and Lincoln.

She is predeceased by her mother Nellie Gieron, father William Grudecki and all of her siblings.

Tillie attended elementary school in Acadia Valley and enjoyed playing ball. She completed high school in Medicine Hat in 1940. She graduated from Normal School Teachers Education in Calgary. Tillie’s teaching career began in Three Hills, continued on to a small town north of Millarville as well as Blackie, concluding her 35 year teaching career at Spitzee Elementary School in High River.

While in Millarville, Tillie met her husband Allan at a Christmas concert. They enjoyed their courting years, attending dances in the foothills while arriving in a Model A.

They were married on August 8, 1948 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Calgary. In 1951 they purchased a farm north of High River, where they have resided until present day. Tillie loved the farming life, gardening, baking and canning, all while fulfilling a teaching career and raising their family.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed travelling with her cousin, Jean, and taking in sights abroad and throughout North America. Allan and Tillie took many trips together in the United States before being content to remain close to home.

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in High River will host prayers on Sunday, November 20th at 5:00pm and a funeral service Monday, November 21st at 10:00 am. Family and friends are invited to remain after the service for a luncheon served by CWL.
