The communities of Turner Valley and Black Diamond will be celebrating the new year with a new name.

On Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. residents from all over the Foothills are invited to the Flare ‘n Derrick community hall for wagon rides, face painting, dancing and outdoor skating.

In years previous, the family-friendly event would end at 8 p.m., however, the town and members of the Diamond Valley Sustainable Living Centre have extended the celebration to midnight to kick off a new year under the official Town of Diamond Valley name.

Residents are encouraged to don formal wear, costumes or masquerade masks. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and best dancers!

Admission to the Gala will be by donation to the Diamond Valley Sustainable Living Centre. The Flare n’ Derrick Community Hall, Ice Rink and Millennium Park, are located at 131 Main Street behind the Sheep River Library.

The towns of Okotoks and High River will also be hosting events during the day for families with Okotoks boasting a fireworks display set for 7:00 p.m.
